- Subject: [NAFEX] Z2/3 blackberry report
- Date: Sat, 2 Jul 2005 06:27:27 -0700 (PDT)
I am one of the folks trialing the Fort Kent King blackberry for John Bunker
of Maine.
This winter we had -43F with 18" snow cover. Of 30 plants only 5 are bearing
fruit, and
only a little. All survived, most had 75% winter kill where exposed. A
couple are
bearing fruit from apparently above snow line, these I will mark and watch
especially.
This is still exceptional performance for blackberries. I think to use a snow
fence next
winter, but some winters are quite dry here. Del z 2/3 n MN
