I've never tried using the Japanese apple bags, but can believe that they do take a fair amount of time to put on. That's probably part of the reason that the Japanese charge $1+/apple. Don't remember the prices on the fancy ones, but I recall individual fruits running as much as $5/fruit! I was told that you usually don't buy those for yourself, but as gifts for people.
Same amount of work is true of the sandwich baggies. Great for a few trees, but I find it hard to imagine doing it commercially for what people are willing to pay for fruit.
