They also include
the Turley Winesap, which in my experience is far inferior to the Stayman
Winesap (having taken college pomology classes down in Kansas, where both
cultivars were grown at the time). -- Sam Brungardt, St. Paul,

They include "Ben Davis"! in their "ark of taste". Now Ben Davis is
undoubtedly worth preserving as it has many good qualities and is probably a
useful breeding parent. But I've never heard anyone make a favorable comment
about it's flavor.

Here's the apple list -http://www.slowfoodusa.org/ark/heritage_apples.html
They have a lot of sites associated with the slow Food movement -it's a little hard to find things at times.

Is there a full list somewhere? Seems to me the link justpoints to new foods voted onto the ark. For example, surelythey would have selected some apples...
It's interesting to see which cultivars Slow-Food hasnominated to its"Ark of Taste", a sort of hall of fame meaning theseconnoseurs havedecided its the best.Click on: Slow-FoodArk of Taste
