Hi all;
We are in zone 5 SW Connecticut in a valley where the frost can hit as late
as the first week of june....forget plums, peaches apples etc in this
microclimate.
It is the variation in winter temps (days w/ 50+ degrees going down to teens
at nite) that kill the buds most of the time. The late frost is just the
kicker. I get plums about once every 4-5years and am delighted if the
critters
leave me a few...the work is nasty for this reward but we don't have to make
a
living at it and it is sometimes worth the trouble. This year the deer have
eaten all up to 6feet high...
oh well.
