gravenstein will ripen in august during the worst of the heat,  with attendent poor quality -  spitz should work as a pollinator (pollenizer? gawd,  I used to keep then straight!) if it lives thru the fireblight - Bramleys is a big tart apple,  but again ripens relatively early and like the rest of the English apples doesn't like heat - - all poor choices for your climate,  IMO,
but,  hey,  whadda I know?

Subject: [NAFEX] apple questions

I need some advice on apples:  1)Can I grow a Gravenstein in southern Indiana?  2)  Will a Spitzenburg funtion as a pollenator?  3)  Is a Bramley a good apple for sauce and/or cider?  4) Is there a good source for all of them from one nursery?
Jerry in southern Indiana
