Years ago the USDA found that a 10% milk spray is effective. One theory of
how it works is that the milk provides salts to the plant that increase its
ability to withstand the mildew. Another possibility is that the milk
cultures bacteria on the surface of the plant, and they, in turn, create an
inhospitable environment for the mildew.

Sulphur is also good against powdery mildew for plants that are tolerant.
