- Subject: [NAFEX] Quince for fresh eating?
- Date: Fri, 10 Dec 2004 15:15:03 -0800 (PST)
Hello everybody.
Wonder if anybody can recommend a quince variety for
fresh eating?
One Green World nursery catalog lists a few Russian,
Ukrainian types which it says are sweet and tender to
be eaten fresh:
* Aromatnaya - "has a sweet and pleasing lemony flavor
and can be eaten fresh".
* Kaunching - "sweet enough to be eaten fresh".
* Kuganskaya (Kubanskaya ?) - "more tender than most
Quince Kuganskaya is sweet and mild, good for fresh
eating".
* Mellow (Myagkoplodnaya) - "Crisp, juicy and
apple-like, Mellow (tm) fruit is very tender with a
pleasant lemony flavor and fragrance"
>From description is not very clear which one is better
tasting. Kuganskaya and Mellow look most interesting.
Called the nursery but the lady I talked to could not
provide the information I need.
Have any of you had experience in growing these kinds
of Quince?
Look forward for your answer.
