Not all pear varieties are compatible on the standard quince rootstocks. The usual practice is to put in an interstem of "Old Home" pear. Pear will graft on a number of species of hawthorn, too. The Pacific NW native Crataegus douglasii makes a very good dwarf or semi-dwarf tree with most pears as long as you grow it under sod. If you cultivate and disturb the roots, it suckers.

Fellow Nafexers,    I think I remember reading that a pear can be grafted on quince rootstock.  I have a quince I started from seed last spring and also have more seeds I can plant if I desire.  I'm sure some of u folks are knowledgable on this subject, so is it worth the effort?

Thanks,  Jack Wigal
