Thanks Mark!
Only thing I have noticed is after a long day hike of munching on
clumps of Wintergreen (Tea Leaves as they are called locally)here and
there continuosly is an odd dry-mouth like condition that only a glass
of milk or something else fatty can reverse.
On a fruit note, I really recommend Early Bartlett pear. Early,
delicious, and not mealy or mushy, ripening with reasonable slowness
off the tree for an early variety. They seem a little firm when perfect
in my book. Biting through the firm skin reveals an excellent tender
flesh. A little different pressure test for ripeness. Tree lives a long
time here in zone 4b. Just as good as Bartlett up here in my book,
considering Bartlett doesn't really live up to its fame/flavor being a
longer season than tree-ripening allows for. Maybe not enough degree
days? One situation for me at least where the store bought Bartletts
are better than the ones off the tree. Could be our soil here though,
or region.
Happy Harvests,
Heron
