If the Apple you are referring to came from up state New York and was listed in a copy of Pomona.
The article was written by a fellow that also was a advocate of the
Christian homestead movement (the name escapes me at the moment) the Name
of the apple is Crown Jewel -- A light red apple
with green blushes. The top is covered with a light crown
of Russet flowing near the stem end and over the top the taste is a fine
grain winter apple that sweeten over a long period.
