From June 3 - 6 I bagged just short of 250 apples on three trees (Zestar, Honeycrisp, and Fireside), leaving only about 3 on each tree unbagged. I picked the best apple per cluster to bag, removing the rest, including removing all apples that had any blemishes on them already. (Last year I thinned the fruit while bagging, this year I'll wait to thin after the June drop is over, since I thought I lost more apples than I wanted last year, though the tree did bloom well this year, possibly in response to the thinning, breaking its every-other year blooming that it had been doing.) I used the same bags that Naomi used with the twist ties, averaging about 1 bagged apple per minute. I have lost 6 bagged apples so far, which has included one heavy rain and a windy day today.

I found ordinary Baggies Sandwich bags at Wal-Mart. They had twist ties. I
think they were $1.50 for 200. They went on easily and nothing has blown
off. We have had some real storms in the weeks since I put on the bags. I
must have picked the right apples to bag, nothing has dropped yet.
