This is where we let the sun sterilize the soil by putting something,
like black plastic, on the ground for a time and letting the heat kill the
weeds, grasses, and hopefully most seeds. My sister-in-law put down a black
plastic over her bermuda lawn, without any tillage, then awhile later, she
cut the slits where she wanted her tomatoes and squash and she had a
beautiful garden. That surprised me back then. Oh yes, add fertilizer
underneath if needed.

Zone 7, where peaches, plums, & pears are in full bloom. Went thru a night
28 degrees for 1.5 hrs, but I think we may have escaped a lot of damage as
the wind was blowing. I should have Mayhaws, blackberries, most fig
varieties, and grapes and muscadines, IF we do not freeze too long again
before Easter.
