Uma,
I've tried pulling up young hickory trees that were growing where I
didn't want them (both shagbark and bitternut), and found that their
roots are much longer and thicker than their above ground parts, so my
guess is that you won't be able to move the tree unless you have one of
those big tree diggers. If you can get it moved I think it will be
self-fertile (someone will correct me if not). The nuts are said to be
tasty, but very thick shelled and hard to get into.
