The moldering hay will add organic matter to the soil, but is unrelated to beneficial myco fungi.



That is also my understanding. After a forest is cut down and farming begins it is only a few short years and all the fungi beneficial to trees dies without their hosts, tree roots. Other fungi such as field mushrooms, puff balls will live but not those that having the symbiotic relationship with trees.
