A note on eating fresh black currants...
I tasted a number of ripe black currants at the WSU Experimantal Farm in Mt
Vernon, Washington. Most of them were not pleasant to eat fresh. One that I
enjoyed the fresh taste of is Ben Sarek. It was grape-like. This variety is
larger and earlier than most, so maybe it was riper than the other I tried,
and as a result sweeter. I purchased a plant of this variety from Raintree.
Another winner for me in fresh taste is a gooseberry X currant cross called
Orus 8.
