Hi Steve,
My apologies Steve, I was unaware that Petite Jewel was given a U of MN #; I didn't think that type of joint release between the two happened since the early days of Elmer's work. Are there any other grapes that have been named recently that have had a MN # given? Grapes such as Somerset, Summersweet, Brianna, etc. come to mind.
I have visited Elmer 4 times in the last 2 years, and have since his decline, both physically and mentally. I count myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to spend time with such an inspiring, warm and generous man.
I am doing my part by helping the preservation process with the MGGA. I am providing a database to track who has his grapes to hopefully prevent the loss of some of his obscure but valuable breeding material.
I think however that most of his material would have succumbed to the cold we had here last night; -43.6F! Why do I live here again? 8-)
Dean
UDSA zone dang cold!
