In 1987 in the Pomona quarterly, David Johnson of Milton, Washington
reported on 2 cherry trees he found in an old cherry orchard, apparently
seedlings.
#1 Cherry: marble sized, black, high sugar, low acid, firm texture, heavy
annual production even in poor fruit years, disease resistant, natural
semi-dwarf
#2 Cherry: larger than #1, dark red, good mix of sweet and tart, texture
between sweet and pie cherries, disease resistant, natural semi-dwarf
Seed and scionwood was offered. I was wondering if anyone did any
experimenting with these varieties? It would be interesting to hear an
update.
