Turkeys love Honeycrisp here in southwestern Wisconsin. A flock of about 7 walk out of our most productive block every
time I drive down to it. They eat large holes in the fruit. A Zon  cannon will scare them away for the final 3 weeks before harvest when the damage is at its peak. Even though a town close to here is known as the wild turkey capital of the world we can live with the birds--they cannot hold a candle to Wisconsin hail storms.

<x-tad-bigger>Hey,</x-tad-bigger>

<x-tad-bigger>Has anyone been able to determine that turkeys actually do eat apples?</x-tad-bigger>

<x-tad-bigger>I know we have heard people blaming them.</x-tad-bigger>

<x-tad-bigger>I got a movie today of one pecking sweet corn, but I have not actually seen them eating apples.  On sweet corn they don’t start at the top of the ear of corn like crows or other birds. They tear down the husk and start about an inch from the top. I’ll have the pictures up on our web site. ( andmaybe a movie clip soon if you’re a turkey fan )</x-tad-bigger>

<x-tad-bigger>Now since you all grow apples I should talk about them. One of our hunters took home an apple with a peck in it and slid the two puncture holes cleanly into his stuffed turkey’s beaks. There are two holes that the turkey makes when he pecks. Both look like half moon shapes.  I also have a picture of that up on the web site. </x-tad-bigger>

<x-tad-bigger>I have some pictures of our damage on our web site that can be viewed at</x-tad-bigger>

<x-tad-bigger>pleaseemail it to me personally and I'll put it on the web site for all</x-tad-bigger>

<x-tad-bigger>to see and use if desired.  Email</x-tad-bigger><x-tad-bigger> (address removed)</x-tad-bigger><x-tad-bigger>that way everyone won't have to download the picture files and take forever to download them. So please don't respond to theapplecroplist serve with pictures.</x-tad-bigger>
