Tom,
I also have this apple, Fred sent me scion wood a few months before his
death in 1999. Here in Quebec, zone 4, it is perfectly hardy and very
vigorous.

It is a cross of M.Niedzwetkyana x George Cave. M.Niedz. is a red fleshed
crab with dark reddish green leafes and red-pink flowers, and the ancestor
of many red flowering decorative crabs. George Cave is an English summer
apple, about which I have very little information.

It hasn't fruited yet for me, but I would expect it to fruit soon, probably
next year.
