Thanks so much for the feedback from everyone regarding the Budagowsky 118 rootstock.  I've had conversations this past week with a number of pomologists regarding rootstocks and ultimately have decided to scale down on the size of trees that I'm going to grow.  The primary options I've been considering have been Geneva 30 or Vineland 1.  Although G.30 has a terrific reputation once the trees are established, I'm leaning toward the V.1.  It sounds to be the safer bet from what I've been hearing from growers.   I'd like to hear of people's experiences with the V.1 to see what--if any--its potential problems may be.  Are there any folks on the list who are growing on V.1?   The block that I'm having grafted this coming Spring is going to consist of 520 trees (33 varieties, mostly heirlooms) which will be planted on site in the Spring of 2006 as 2 year old feathered trees.  Everything will be individually staked.  I'd very much like to get suggestions regarding spacing for the V.1, if anyone has any thoughts on this.

Thanks again for everyone's feedback.  It's really been very helpful.

Sincerely,

John
