Good afternoon. I just walked about the yard after work, and took a close
look at the various pears. 'Yakumo' seeds are beginning to darken, so
ripeness is near. I sampled one (to observe the seeds) and found the fruit
to be developing some flavor and sweetness. It was VERY juicy (no mystery
there as we had over 1.8" of rain in a few hours about 1.5 weeks ago).
Again, apart from the novelty, I'd take a tree-ripe 'Luscious' or 'Seckel'
pear hands down over any of the three Asians I'm able to grow here in
northeastern Wisconsin (Z4). Cheers, Brian Pearson
