If you graft Paula Red, try to place it on the same tree as some green apples are grown. For show and beauty. At the local county fair, there was a gentleman that brought in Paula Reds each year for competition in the apple section. Each year they were bigger and redder than the rest of the entries. I spoke to him on his secret and he said you should thin them down to no more than one apple in each cluster that forms or you will not have yearly production and they will be smaller. He gave me some scion wood and I have a full branch of them, they are a real eye catcher. Bright red, really stand out, he was right cause one year I did not thin them down and the following year the branch was empty as Mother Hubbard's Cupboard. I will some scion wood available next spring but please remind me.
