All the talk about Mulberries and grafting has got me wondering. Is there that much difference in the varieties of Mulberries? Flavor, fruit size, taste, keeping quality, etc.? I've only really every tried the ones that grow wild around Indiana. Am I missing out on something?
I've grown and fruited several - Illinois Everbearing, Collier, Wellington, and have Stearns, though it hasn't fruited yet, as well as seedling M.alba and M.rubra selections.
I've yet to find one with better production and flavor than Illinois Everbearing - good balance of sweetness and tartness, though I've got a couple of M.rubra selections that have flavor similar to IE, and heavy production, but IE bears over a much, much longer period.
