- Subject: [NAFEX] smartweed and Jap beetles
- Date: Fri, 20 Jun 2003 19:46:59 -0500
Lucky commented that the jap beetles were eating smartweed. We try to leave
plenty of smartweed in the garden as it's their favorite food. they prefer
it over beans plants and even corn silks, and it's very easy to knock them
off into a bucket of water to take to the chickens, so a little smartweed
can last a long time. It's the larger smartweed with the reddish marks on
the leaves they like, not the little plainleaved kind nor the really big
tall kind with white flowers. Donna
