"Greenwood"... that's the term I was looking for! Searching Google with the
terms "green wood budding" and "green wood grafting" has turned up a wealth
of information on this technique. Thanks for pointing me in the right
direction.

New shoots grow from the buds at the base of the leaf petioles.

I've had better success with 'active' pecan/hickory wood, doing 4-flap
grafts, just like I do with larger dormant scions, than I have with
greenwood budding. Probably an indictment of my technique more than
anything else, though.
