To the list,

Rob's first message, on the 18th, asking for recommendations said " I'm looking for taste and vigor over yield."

I just looked at the MSU web page listed here and noted that varieties were compared for yield, berry rot, cane length, and picking dates, but not one word was said about flavor. I have noticed this to be true of the recommendations of most breeding programs--they talk about yield, color, hardiness, and other factors but rarely mention taste.

My garden has the remnants of a very delicious variety, which I believe to be the old favorite Cuthbert. This is northwest Oregon, so would not meet the requirements for a cold climate, but there must be good tasting varieties that have been developed for severe winters too.

Darn good idea, why didn't I think of that... Thanks to everyone
for recommendations, I'm going to see if I can find some of them to add to
my briar patch.

Thanks

Rob
