You know I have always heard that, but it doesent seem
to work for me. I put mine in moist peat as well, but
there seems to be a little patch of green or white
mold that grows of on top of where the seed grows (on
occasion). Some seeds work fine like the flowering
quince, but others like my papaws haven't sprouted yet
yet. I cleaned bit of mold of the top of them
yesterday. Then I sprayed a bit of sulfered water on
top to see if that would help.

I also seems to have problems with Wilt fungus on my
seedlings. Maybe my house has alot more moisture in
the air than I think.

I think next time, I will try dipping the seeds in
bleachy water before sowing.

Del,
Don Birkholz of Montana experimented extensively with growing peaches
low to the ground to rely on snow to protect them through the extreme
Montana winter.

In Hudson Massachusetts on a dog walk in a Portugese neighborhood I
came upon a grape arbor that was 10 inches above the ground. The
grapes were being grown as if a ground cover but with air below. A
year later they had been removed - maybe it didn't work.

I can dig up Don's address if you email me off list. He was a chair
for NAFEX, I believe it was Northern Hardiness - someone else probably
remembers exactly which chair.
