Could someone explain this concept to me. I notice a few of the IGs have
their own e-mail lists, but most don't. Is this just a list of members to
call with questions about different fruits. I notice most list their phone
numbers in POMONA. I am a new member.

Hi Lucky,

MN447 is an open pollinated Malinda seedling. Frank Folz, of the former
Northwinds Nursery in Princeton, Minnesota rates it as his finest tasting
apple--the only one to exceed Sweet16. He has tried to get the folks at the
University of Minnesota breeding program to name it, but they have refused.
They say it doesn't taste like an apple!

I have not tasted the fruit yet; my tree had a silver maple drop on it two
years ago and it's still recovering. (Damn my poor aim when felling trees!)
I would suggest that it would be worthy of trial for you based on Folz'
recommendation alone. At least if you're in a northern area.

Sincerely,
Steve Herje
Lone Rock, WI USDA zone 3
