Sheeze!!

We are just talking about CDs and perhaps PDF. Not eight track
tapes.......and the technology bummer

My reply:

Like I stated:

"Ah, but always people explain how this time it is different"

I guess you just wanted to prove my point. :)

As an FYI the registration form now has an opt option that allows members to
exclude them self from the membership roster. I availed myself of this
feature when I rejoined NAFEX.

In a similar venue I might point out that the reason I stopped being a NAFEX
member in the first place was in large part driven by Tom's attitude,
comments, and some of the popular support others gave to the idea of
violating the implicit "natural" copyright of an author that allows them to
control dissemination of their work. Some contributors find the idea of the
electronic, uncontrolled dissemination of submissions abhorrent. I count
myself among them.

The reason I rejoined NAFEX this year was that it was brought to my
individual attention that the board of directors had elected to address
privacy concerns and allow authors to publish a non republication disclaimer
on their submissions, as well as institute the opt-out feature on the
registration form.

I for one want nothing to do with an organization that infringes on
individuals privacy. I have enough problems with my Government doing it,
much less the elective groups I associate with.

There are also issues, in reference to general liability that make some
information dissemination unattractive.

In reference to comments about the amount of POMONA that is published from
this media, this goes back to the time of this lists original inception. The
concerns voiced then have proven prophetic. This list has resulted in less
material being publishes in POMONA. It also has lead to decline in the
participation of some older members, or perhaps more accurately stated the
digital divide has made some of our senior members feel alienated, isolated,
and as de facto second class NAFEX members. I suspect it has also resulted
in slightly less revenue flowing to the NAFEX coffers. Of course there are
many positive aspects to the list-server among them a new virtual NAFEX
community has developed and members and non-members get timely resolution to
issues.

Regards,

TFB
