I found a persimmon tree at the arboretum in Seattle last week that was
loaded with fruit the size of quarters still hanging on the branch. The
variety is John Rick. There were some soft fruit on the ground that I
sampled. The flavor was good.

Pawpaws here in East Tenn/SW VA ripen mid Aug thru mid Sept, with a rare
tree with fruit in October. Have never observed frozen or freeze damaged
fruits here.
A tree that bears very late but high quality fruit, in an area with a long
season (Zone 6-8?) may be worth noting.
