As I remember, American Forests magazine had young trees that were being sold from an original Johnny Appleseed tree. I want to say it was in Ohio, and I do remember the picture showed it had chain wrapped all around the trunk keeping it together. That's about all I can remember though.

Is it worth pointing out that all those trees would most probably be dead now, and the fellow should be looking for successive grafted & budded trees ?

I know there was a discussion of known Johnny Appleseed trees a while back.
Can anyone help this fellow out?

lon,

thanks for helping me out. i'm a reporter with the Cleveland (Ohio) Plain
Dealer and I am looking for an apple tree that was planted by Johnny
Appleseed (John Chapman). This quest is like the hunt for the Holy Grail.
I have been to the Algeo farm, I have been to Granville, Mt. Vernon, Newark
and Richmond Ind. I have no proof that is definitive on any of those
claims: Just hand-me-down legends. Could there be a proven tree someplace?
What's the buzz out there in NAFEX? Who has hunted for the tree, and what
have they found?
Any insights, sightings, tales of the hunt etc. will be appreciated. I am
trying to write a story for Sept. 26, his birthday. Thanks.
