Thanks for the comment. It may be because we are in zone 7A, where we
occasionally get a long frost-free Fall, or the high organics in the
amended red clay that I backfill the hole with, but my experience is that
if I set out a tree seedling before it starts going dormant it will get a
flush of new growth that does not harden off, dies in the Winter, and then
requires pruning in the Spring and does not branch as well.
