There is no perfect thermometer, which is why they invented statistics.
Buy a bunch of thermometers and average them!
Way, way back in high school physics we all brought thermometers from home,
set all the bulbs (electric thermometers hadn't been invented) in ice
water, took readings, and found great variation among them.
Since you are concerned about accuracy at low temps, maybe you should try
the same experiment and keep the one that is most accurate at 32`F (0`C)
and discard the rest. If you have only one thermometer to read, you have
no reason for doubt.
Same reason a person should have only one clock in the house.
