Devin and all those aspiring to root dormant cuttings:
In my experiences, the only thing which greatly enhances success rate is the TIME which they are extracted or cut from the mother plants.
Or, based on my very limited knowledge of tree physiology, those harmones which are largely responsible for root initiation rapidly begin the (downward) translocation process when days become shorter or (depending on location) mid-late fall (late Oct. here).  In the translocation process there is a short-lived time when these hormones move through the base of shoots (due probably to contorted or somehow confined vascular system).  It is then when you can capture enough to enhance subsequent rooting.  I've tried this with many apple/pear/plum/peach/cherry, etc.  The only total failure was peach due likely to my error in judgement as to when to take the cuttings.

    Good luck.

This has been done with rooting hormone and heated bins to raise the soil temperature at East Malling Research in England per Bruce MacDonald's book Practical Woody Plant Propagation For Nursery Growers.  We tried it at Willamette Nurseries with very limited success, maybe 10%.

I don't recall this being discussed......is there a way to propagate
rootstocks from the dormant cuttings  that are inevitable from  bench
grafting?  I have a bag of m26 sticks that are 4 to 10 " long (that are from
grafting for a southern Mn. friend) also I have a few bud 9 and renetka
cuttings in the fridge awaiting the possibility of a new life.  Any one done
this?
Yes, it's still snowing. Del
