Hi all:
A couple of comments:
It is not necessary to wait for new leaves. Most modern herbicides
cannot penetrate bark but are readily sucked in by freshly cut wood.
A non-organic, but low impact method of control is to cut the stem
near the ground and then use very strong (3:1, water to concentrate)
herbicide to paint the exposed wood. I think you could even put the
poison into a shoe polish applicator. Targeted, low impact, but not
organic.
A similar technique that *might* pass muster as organic would be to
cut vine close to the ground. Drill a 1/4" (6mm) hole down the center
of the stem and pack with borax "fertilizer". Borax is a
micronutrient that is toxic in high doses. Borax is mined in near-
pure form in the California dessert. I don't see any difference
between packing a hole with borax and sprinkling rock dust on the
ground.
Any comments from those who know more about organic protocol than I
do?
