Hi Tom, Tom you may get a lot of mail from other fruit growers. So this is my answer to your question.I grow espalier trees but thay are all in the ground. If I were to talk a pot grown tree out of the pot. I would just break up the roots the best I could, by taking an ax to the root system and try to break up the circular growing of the roots. It then can either be repotted or planted. I would think the tree will be in great shock after you cut the roots. Sometimes fruit trees take some time to come back to normal when roots are disturbed. I am located in the Pacific North West in Washington state. Spring is here. Trees are almost in bloom, weather is getting warmer and the bees are flying too. Good luck with your tree.
