I have seen numerous wild American chestnuts growing in New Hampshire.
(The roots of blight-killed trees resprout.) I know I've seen them as
far north as Center Harbor, on the North end of lake Winnepasawkee. My
tree book lists the native range as north to southern Maine, through to
Ontario, and south to Georgia. Musser Forests lists it as zones 4-8.
