Hello Pete,

I have both eleagnus and a Cornelian cherry. Nither has fruit yet.
What you have described sounds like an eleagnus to me. The Cornelian
Cherry look just like you average dogwood with very small yellow flowers
very early in spring; actually it look like a dogwood because it IS
a kind of dogwood.

Now the kind of elaeagnus you seem to have may be tougher to figure out.
there a few kinds of edible elaeagnuses. Autumn olive, Russian olive, and
Goumi (there may be more too). You may need to ask an expert like Hector Black
(who is on this list). Just by the discription of the parent, it sounds like
a
Goumi (maybe).
