In South Texas, commercial peach growers often plant two peach trees in one
hole and treat them as one plant. They usually plant two of the same
variety. Their thinking is that resulting tree or trees are stronger and
bear more fruit in the same amount of ground. Calif. commercial peach
growers do the same thing, I understand. I would think that for a home
grower that two varieties that are compatible pollinators in one hole would
be a wise use of space.
