Fluff:

The tree isn't Reliance, or if it is, it has mutated somehow.
Reliance ripens with Redhaven give or take a couple of days which
would be Aug. 6-8 at your place.

My reply:

Hmmm...I have been wondering about that...the fruits are huge too,
competing with my Brandywine tomatoes for size...

The Sucker is big too, real big...I keep hacking and hacking at it,
and it just keeps on growing...in all fairness though it sits in a big
bed of mulch...so it gets all the moisture and nutrients it needs...

Hey Edwardo, while I have your attention what are your thoughts on:

I have Reliance too, living 30 minutes north in Indy. It was just
last week that I was able to harvest my Reliance. Hope that give you
a sense of reference, while it gives me a sense of relieve that I'm
not the only one that had late peaches.

My reply:

There is a nursery about 12 miles form my house that plants reliance
for household consumption...I shall endeavor to call them and see if
they have harvested their yet or not and report back...they tell me
they start out a new Reliance tree every 3 years as they only live 6
or so years...I hope they are wrong, but they insist they have been
doing this for years now...

Does anyone root prune their peach trees? What type of effect does
it have? I suppose it depends on rootstock. But I have a hard time
believing that the supposed short life span of plums and peaches don't
have something to do with the roots, or rootstocks involved. Any
thoughts on rootstock selection and longevity in peaches and plums?

The tree was purchased at the same time as another fruit tree that my
wife wanted. It was labeled a San Jose plum, purchased I believe from
Frank's Nursery. This was the first year I was able harvest any fruit
off of it, and it turned out to be an apricot variety of some kind.
It was a pleasant surprise to me. They tasted great!

My reply:

Well your first mistake was buying at Frank's. I was never so glad to
see a business go under. Overpriced by any standard, specialist who
knew nothing, a guarantee that was close to meaningless...

But an apricot huh, wow, a pleasant surprise...I hope you enjoy it.
Let all of us know how it fairs in the years to come.

Wishing all of you a chance to avail yourself of the opportunity this
country represents,

the little fuzzy guy, little ol' me
