There are several species with black or dark brown fruit. The native
American Diospyros texana is one of the "black" persimmons. Fruit is edible
and mildly sweet, but not that exciting. There are some subtropical Asian
species that have black fruit, too, as well as some of the dark fruited
forms of D. kaki already mentioned.
