Well, if the columnar habit appeared in domestic apples, no reason it
shouldn't appear in other apple species. I've seen a form of maple with the
same habit, though it's ugly as anything in an ornamental. The maple was
so extremely veritical it looked like a cluster of poles with a few leaves
on it.
