Does anyone know if Van Eseltine crabapple has fertile pollen .. i.e. can it
be
used as a pollenizer?
The flowers are described in Fiala as 'very heavily double' which makes me
think
it is not a diploid.
It has been used in hybridizing, but maybe they used it as a female parent?
Can heptaploids or other multiploids have fertile pollen?
Thanks,
Derry
