I've corresponded with Neva Rolls--her apple and pear page is linked to the
Nafex site--about pears. She has been using a dwarfing rootstock for pears
that she raves about. The problem is that it is not widely available.
Columbia Basin Nursery and C & O Nursery carry a few pears grafted on to the
stock.

If you know any business that carries this stock, please let us know. Here
is it's description:
Pyrodwarf is a new Pyrus communis, precocious dwarfing rootstock. It is an
Old Home X Bonne Luis cross made in Geisenheim, Germany, in about 1980.
Pyrodwarf starts bearing in the 2nd leaf and produces a tree about 50
percent smaller than OHxF 97. There is no significant reduction in fruit
size and the trees reach full bearing in 5 years. Pyrodwarf has no root
suckering, has moderate resistance to fireblight, and has good winter cold
hardiness.

This description was taken from the Columbia Basin Nursery website at:

Any information is appreciated.
