Ginda:
My soil is naturally on the acid side, but for quite a few years I
fought the battle of unhealthy blueberry plants with sulphur, aluminum
sulfate, and oak leaf mulches. I have never found Holly Tone to be very
effective, although maybe it is in large quantities around ornamentals.
Blueberries seem to need a real concentrated jolt. When I tried iron
sulfate I saw visible results in a week. That's all I use now. It
comes in 5 lb. bags for about $6.00, the same price as aluminum
sulfate. I mix up several cups of the dry material with water in a 5
gallon bucket and pour it around the plants. Works well for hydrangea
and azaleas too. I also found my ph testers to be unreliable, so I
stopped using them and now I just guess. It's a little harder to find
iron sulfate than the other acidifiers, but I certainly think it's worth
a try. Rgds, Don Yellman, Great Falls, VA
