Emergencies and disasters can happen anytime and anywhere.  New, inexpensive and widely available mobile technologies like GPS and advanced sensors can help expedite response times and situational awareness particularly in difficult terrain or in other unfavorable scenarios.  With populations increasing around the globe – particularly in urban areas – finding ways to react, locate and help those impacted by emergency and disaster situations more efficiently can help save lives.

1. FIRST RESPONDERS: How can technology be used to help first responders, such as emergency medical technicians, firefighters and police, cut down on response times and increase situational awareness?

2. SEARCH & RESCUE: Whether it’s over water, snow, mountains, forest or rubble, time and accuracy mean everything when it comes to search and rescue. It is critical to utilize technology to enhance existing resources and tools – and enable new ones.  How can technology be employed to help search and rescue crews target, locate and help those in need before time runs out?

3. LONG-TERM RELIEF: Following an emergency or disaster, what happens once the initial response is complete? How can technology help ensure that relief supplies and support get to the people who need them most, that the living conditions remain safe, and that those affected are able to return to  a normal routine as quickly as possible?

Learn from the man that literally wrote the book on the subject, Chris Young. This new NASAR course is designed to train law enforcement investigators, SAR coordinators, and SAR team members to manage the “search” aspects of a missing person incident in the urban setting.

Classes  will be held in Fort Collins, Colorado, approximately an hour east of Estes Park. Course fee - $70. For more information or REGISTER HERE (separate from SARCON registration). These courses are approved for POST credit for Colorado peace officers: Urban Search Management #SR0003, Urban Search Management Instructor #SR0004.

SARDUS, NASAR and NASDN are offering certification opportunities while dog teams are in Colorado for the national search and rescue conference.  Testing will be for area search, human remains detection, and trailing. The clinic will be held in Estes Park, Colorado, June 1-7, 2015.

NASAR, North American Search Dog Network and Search and Rescue Dogs of the United States

national canine certifications in wilderness air scent, human remains detection, urban and wilderness trailing.

SAR dog teams will have a rare opportunity to choose between NASAR, NASDN and SARDUS certifications at one event. Each of these organizations are working together and all are welcome – June 4-7.

An area search, trailing and human remains detection dog training clinic will be held June 1-3.

Canine teams will be able to train one-on-one with the most experienced evaluators from NASAR, NASDN and and SARDUS. We will be focusing on area search, trailing and human remains detection.
