I believe many MSAR groups or units do other things besides searching. For instance, SE PA SAR does safety and communications for horse events or other major

public activities.  We save the event sponsor having to have an ambulance on site or paying a doctor to set up an aid station, get to ride in some places others can’t, and usually earn a gratuity for the organization.  These activities give training in command, control, communications, ICS/NIMS, and experience in first aid, PR, etc.

We have done Paper Chases, cancer walks, parades, similar events. Our members are active as individuals with trails programs, county equine councils, state equine councils, and many local projects, all of which broaden the experience of our members.
