Lucky you! MSAR teams can learn so much from SAR dog teams.

Artificial cadaver scent is available commercially. But! Some
SAR dog handlers say it is not real enough and only real human
cadaver scent will do. Also, use of the artificial scent is a
little tricky because horses (like dogs) can smell it even when
we cannot. The person who handles the scent has to be careful
not to contaminate objects accidentally with scent. Accidental
contamination can really mess up the training if the handler
corrects the animal for alerting correctly, because the handler
thinks the alert is incorrect.

One way you can learn from a SAR dog team, without being a pest
to them, is to be a volunteer search subject for their training.
