The search in MS (Mississippi) included participants of Harrison County
Sheriff's Mounted Patrol. They are career public safety officers who
just recently completed a mounted patrol training course. They planned
to participate in this search as a kind of graduation exercise[1]. The
search drew 150 volunteers that morning. Perhaps being on horseback was
a material contribution, but the total amount of effort contributed to
the search is also very important. Either way, the outcome illustrates
the potential effectiveness of expert SAR management: a find of a
subject missing 100 days within 1 hour of starting a large coordinated
search[2].
