GCTC member, Linda Capsaliaris, passes along this important information she received from the Loomis Basin Horseman's Association:

It has been a long time since we have discussed any trail, state park
issues...well, there is a BIG issue looming and we need to all work together
to help with this one!

Very quietly the Federal Government has decided that the Beach and trails
between Granite Bay Park Entrance and Beals Point are a great source of raw
Materials (Borrow Site) for work being done below the Dam.

Not only does this NOT make sense financially or environmentally, but there
are significant safety, long term use and health concerns that impact the
Entire community and area who use and enjoy this State property.

The construction could CLOSE THE TRAILS FOR UP TO 8 years! There are no
plans to re-build this "Borrow site".  It is unclear how much digging will
actually be done therefore it is unclear how usable the trails/beach will be
after the construction is completed.

We have been working diligently with politicians, locally and federally in
the short time we all became aware of this.

Here's where you and LBHA members can help:

1. ATTEND Granite Bay MAC MEETING June 6, 2007  7PM
Eureka School District office, 5455 Eureka Road, Granite Bay

PLEASE PICK UP AND WEAR the "BUTTON" handed out at the meeting - numbers
of people in attendance is important.

This issue is not on the AGENDA, but we plan to have 15 minutes of 4 people
who have been dogging this issue with government representatives to gain
support of local leaders.  This is a great time for all of you to get
informed and updated on the issue.

2. EMAIL and WRITE your friends to attend the meeting too.  This is not just
a horse issue.  People who live in the area, Bike groups, Bird groups, etc.
should all be notified with this email.

3. Please email me with contact points for other groups, individuals so we
can create a master email list for updates and call to action

4. Following the meeting, we will have letters to send out and email to
representatives, etc about action steps.

Please call me with any questions.

With much respect, Donna
